Interview with Jewelry Designer Josie Tecson

Josie Tecson jewelry is just truly one of a kind. I got a glimpse of this jewelry line at the What Women Want event and I thought this line was just so FAB, I had to have a spotlight in TorontoStyle about this unique jewelry designer. Tecson currently has 4 collections that are to die for, Bold, Urban, Bohemian, and Elegance! You can get jewelry for any occasion from her line and you will not be disappointed! Josie’s jewelry has be seen on the likes of Cory Lee, Elicia Cuthbert, and recently worn for Beyonce’s House of Dereon Launch in Toronto. This designer is definitely on the come up!

How did you start jewelry designing?
I was a graphic designer by trade and I got into marketing as well, but I felt that I could never be as creative as I wanted to be in these jobs. I have always been in active in the arts and I wanted to express that, I needed something more hands on. So I quit my job and started bartending which gave me more free time to be more creative. So I started creating wedding gifts for people, and I also started beading which in turn turned into making jewelry. Soon after Kendall my business partner and I met and he took an interest in my jewelry and felt that I could really go somewhere with my designs, so we created Josie Tecson Jewelry.

When did you start the line?
I started designing 3 years ago, but I actually started the business in 2005. Originally the business was called personal touch but we didn’t start marketing the business until October 2006. We went though a lot of names but decided to go with her name Josie Tecson which what it is today; we felt it made it more personal to add her name to the line.

What makes your line of jewelry different from the others? I try to design to cater to every woman. On our website we have 4 collections, and our tag line is “The look that captures every you”. So we just want to be able to create, beautiful, well made jewelry. We set us apart because our jewelry is for any occasion. If you are going to the opera we can supply your jewelry. If you are kicking back and relaxing we have jewelry for that too. Also the good thing about us is that we create and manufacture everything in Canada.

Where do you come up with your designs?
Being in the arts I am very visual, so I get my ideas from looking at people, paintings, everything. I have always been a lover of fashion so that inspires me as well. Being from Vancouver where there is a lot of nature that has influenced me as well. Also a lot of times it’s a feeling within. So when I’m feeling sexy I create really sexy jewelry. So it all depends on my mood. That’s why there are so many collections that are very different.

Is there anywhere else people can find your jewelry besides the website?
Yes currently there are 3 locations, so far, My Space, Brazen Hussy, and Lilac. We are also planning to expand to North America.

What is the price range for your jewelry?
My jewelry starts from 18.00 dollars to 800.00 dollars, so we cater to every price point.
